The face
behind the words

Sarah Are Speed is a writer, an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA), a coffee-lover and an optimist.

She first started writing in top-secret diaries back in elementary school, where words flowed about playground adventures and school yard crushes. In college, Sarah attended her first slam poetry event at a local Ethiopian restaurant (random, but cool). It was there that poetry first felt like church. She fell in love with the bravery and authenticity that came with spoken word, and began her own writing practice shortly thereafter.

In seminary, Sarah  joined forces with some fellow creatives, to launch A Sanctified Art. A Sanctified Art is a ministry that creates multimedia resources for worshiping communities of all shapes and sizes.

She continues to work with A Sanctified Art while also serving as the Associate Pastor for Young Adults and Membership at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, where she lives with her husband, Ryan, and their dog.

Her ultimate pipe dream would be to publish a short book of poems that others might describe as hopeful.
